The origin of birthstone dates back to the biblical era of Moses, where his brother, Aaron’s breastplate has 12 gemstones which represented the 12 tribes if Israel. Currently, one stone was added to the list for the month of December in 1912 which was tanzanite.

The birthstone of February is Purple Amethyst which is a variety of quartz with a beautiful shining purple color. It is known to represent royalty, serenity, and peace. In the ancient times, the Greeks wore the amethyst for protection against the effects of drunkenness.
The March birthstone is known as Aquamarine which is coined from a Latin phrase meaning, “water of the sea” because of its amazing blue-green color. It has a wide range of colors from pale blue to deep blue which is believed to be mermaid treasure. It was also believed by sailors that it had the powers to keep them safe on the sea. It is believed to represent confidence, health, and courage.
April’s birthstone is diamond, the most coveted stone on the planet. Diamond is the hardest known natural substance and is the only gemstone known for its lack of color. Although the classic white diamond is usually seen, it is mined in different colors with brown and yellow as the most common. Also, the most prized but rare colored diamond is the brilliant blue diamond. As the birthstone of the month of April, it symbolizes love due to its fire and brilliance.
Emerald is the birthstone for the month of May and its rich green color reminisces springtime and Mother Nature. The most valued Emeralds can be found in Colombia, where they are mined with their deep green color reflecting the jungles they are gotten from. Emeralds symbolize love and rebirth.
Alexandrite and Pearl are the birthstones for June. Pearls are known for their natural elegant beauty; their formation is as a result of an irritant like a piece of sand enters an oyster which coats the piece over and over to form the pearl and give it a nice shimmer. The Ruby is July’s birthstone and it is a majestic red gemstone known as the king of gems. This stone represents courage, wisdom, and health.
August’s birthstone is Peridot which has a dazzling lime green color and symbolizes healing, fertility, and prosperity.
For the month of September, the birthstone is Sapphire which is known for its majestic blue color. Sapphire symbolizes trust and loyalty.
Opal and Tourmaline are the two birthstones for October. Tourmaline comes in beautiful colors but mainly pretty ink while Opal sparkles with an elegant combination of colors.
November also has two birthstones associated with it, Yellow Topaz and Citrine.
